For more than 20 years Melinda Gates, co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, has been working with her husband on humanitarian issues, such as investing in health and education in Africa or helping women access contraception in developing countries. Speaking to FRANCE 24 on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, she stressed the importance of investing in women and girls but warns that philanthropy is no substitute for government funds.
