As Libya’s security situation deteriorates, the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) has called for refugees to be evacuated urgently to Niger. Since UNHCR evacuations began in January, 2,500 people have been flown out of Libya to Niger and then on to resettlement countries, often in Europe. FRANCE 24’s James André travelled to meet some of the migrants released from Libya's notorious detention centres. Families were reunited after months of separation and suffering. Many are from Eritrea, Somalia or Ethiopia and have been through hell at the hands of smugglers. "They're not human. I've seen three or four people die ever day from starvation, dehydration, illnesses and scabies ... I've seen their skin fall off ... They tortured us to force us to pay. I've seen it with my own eyes. I don't wish it upon anybody," said Nogoussa, an Eritrean refugee.
