Kashmiris bear the brunt of India-Pakistan violence #breakingnews #breaking #worldhealines

In the town of Uri in Indian-administered Kashmir just 15 kilometres from the line of control between Indian and Pakistani-administered Kashmir, a local school has been turned into a temporary shelter. Families from Kamalkote, which saw intense cross-border shelling last week, have set up camp in empty classrooms. Kashmiris bear the brunt of the violence in a region hotly disputed between India and Pakistan. “Whether it's India who fires or Pakistan, we're the ones who suffer," Mohammed Safeer tells FRANCE 24. The two nuclear-armed South Asian rivals may have pulled back from the brink following Islamabad’s release of a captured Indian pilot Friday. But Kashmir’s longstanding problems have not been resolved and civilians are likely to continue to pay the price.
