Five months after the killing of Abdelmalek Droukdel by French forces in northern Mali, al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) has announced that Abu Ubaïda Yussef al-Aanabi, the head of the group’s “Council of Dignitaries”, is its new leader.
