Mali’s former coup leader Assimi Goita on Tuesday sacked the president and prime minister of the country’s transitional government – the latest sign of instability in Africa’s troubled Sahel region, where France is fighting a vexed military campaign against jihadist insurgents. Paris called Goita’s actions a “coup d’état”.
